Stillman's Portrait is about this turning point in artist's self-identity and ultimately to his ability to fully express his freedom again through his subconscious yearning for his home and his only family, his father. The film was somewhat inspired by my fantasy of what it could have been like if I ever came out to my recently deceased grandfather however I decided on raising the stakes to the epitome of patriarchal relationships between a father and son. The underlying theme of the often turbulent waves in intimate lives is one central theme that I take to heart. Beyond the notion of coming out, I wanted to unravel the process of accepting one own's identity through opening to one's nearest relation.
